With oxygen suppliers battling to keep up with the demand, Carte Blanche meets a local doctor from Frere Provincial Hospital in the Eastern Cape with a unique combination of skills, training and friends that have enabled him to devise the ingenious OxERA device.
Already recognised by the government’s regulatory authorities, the proudly local invention has enabled doctors to help some critically ill patients receive oxygen and prevent their lungs from collapsing – for many, the difference between life and death.
